During our election campaign in the spring, over 25,000 people across BC signed our Education Pledge calling on the government to make post-secondary education more accessible and affordable. FPSE President George Davison and Secretary-Treasurer Terri Van Steinburg took those voices to Victoria where then Advanced Education Critic Rob Fleming presented them in the legislature.
Now, with a new government in place, we have been building on the momentum from our campaign in discussing post-secondary issues, challenges, and potential solutions with the Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, the HonourableMelanie Mark. FPSE’s Presidents’ Council met with the Minister at their October meeting in Victoria and brought perspectives from each type of institution our members work at (colleges, institutes, and teaching universities). It was a positive meeting, focused on practical ways that the post-secondary system can be improved in BC.
We’re looking forward to continuing these conversations with the Minister over the next year.
